The story behind the name

PUNCH® Coffee Company takes its name from the character Pulcinella (Punch) from the Commedia dell’arte – an improvised popular comedy in the theatres of Italy from the 16th to the18th Centuries. Frequently banned, the comedy troupe often performed on the streets.
The Italians exported the comedy troupe – Harlequin, Columbina, Pierrot, Pantalone and Pulcinella (Punch) – throughout Europe, eventually reaching Great Britain where Punch was transformed into street puppet theatre. Polichinelle was playing in France by 1630. In 1662, Samuel Pepys diary records the first English mention of open-air puppet performances. Pepys writes that he watched the puppets a few times; once he stopped for a show in Hyde Park and it made him late for an appointment with the King!
Punch the entertainer, personifies a light-hearted attitude to life. A celebration and an enjoyment for all. Today, the warm hearted flavour of good coffee is a grand finale to every dining occasion… or just a quiet moment. PUNCH® Coffee is your chance to indulge in a lasting taste sensation.
